How to Stay Active on Vacation

You Don't Want Your Progress to Stop on Vacation — here are my top tips to stay on track with your goals while traveling

Pack Equipment in Your Suitcase

I always like to be prepared for anything when I travel — no gym at the hotel, minimal walking areas, bad weather, etc. So, my favorite way to get ahead of any travel mishaps is to make sure I have a few things in my bag to use for my workouts so that I'm never able to make an excuse to not be active!

My #1 pick would definitely be a theraball! This little guy is primed and ready to deliver a spicy pilates style burn at any time for your abs, legs, glutes, and arms. The best way to pack this would be to deflate your ball, pack it in a bag with the original straw from the packaging, and then inflate it once you arrive at your destination! This way, you don't have to sacrifice your packing space or your workouts! I've added a few workout ideas below that you can save and revisit when you're in need of a theraball burner!

My next pick would be a set of bands with handles, super thin and easy to pack! I've done a few tutorials in the past showing how to use these bands to replicate dumbbell movements and some pilates based moves as well. The great thing is, you can add or reduce tension with these based on where you stand on the band, so you have plenty of different ways to challenge multiple muscle groups!

You guessed it, mini bands are definitely in the bag! Similar to the handle bands, these suckers are small, flat and perfect for packing but man oh man do they pack a punch! My favorite use for these guys is for glute work, but you can definite add them to select ab moves and upper body burns as well!

Have Travel Workouts Planned by your Trainer or Saved in IG

I have a ton of great travel workouts on my Instagram page, so I always tell my frequent flyers to save those videos as soon as they see them so that they are readily available for the next time that they're traveling! This takes the guess work out of 'what to do' and allows you to sneak in your sweat session quickly and go about your day!

Under my “guides” on IG, I have a collection of travel friendly workouts already saved for you, so be sure to check that out!

Book Active Experiences on Your Trip

Make activity a part of your itinerary! I know a lot of my clients travel for work and typically don't get a ton of free time, so I always encourage booking something fun one night while they're away like kayaking, hiking, etc. If you're calendar is blocked off and you have a reservation already in place before you arrive at your destination, chances are you'll be much more likely to get that activity in!

If you're going on vacation, booking active excursions might be a little easier! I love getting out for a run, bike ride or paddle board to explore new places while still moving my body so I can stay on track with my goals! It doesn't need to be every day of a trip by any means, but the mindfulness of preplanning something active always helps with accountability for sure!

Make a Goal For Yourself

That said, give yourself a goal! Maybe you're aiming to get a workout in more days than not on your vacation; maybe you want to go on a quick 20min run in a new part of the city each day before your travel group wakes up, or maybe you're just hoping to get a few long walks on the beach in. Whatever it is, taking the time out of your vacation to do something for your health and your body is so important.

Remember, take care of you! Stay strong out there, friends!
